Saint Therese Colored Statue. Saint Therese of Lisieux Therese Martin was born in France. She became ill at the age of eight when a statue of the Blessed Virgin smiled at her. At the age of fifteen, she entered the Carmelite convent in Lisieux, France. She lived a private life of prayer and had a great intimacy with God. Therese believed that what matters most was not great deeds, but great love . She died young of tuberculosis at only twenty-four years old. Many lives have been touched by her prayers. Prior to her death she promised to spend her time in heaven doing good on earth. I will let fall a shower of roses and has been called the greatest saint of modern times.
