The mood that I have sought to portray in this sculpture is “One World ~ One Love,” the very essence of Bob Marley’s message for us at Statue.com. Bob Marley (Jamaican, 1945-1981) Bob Marley was a world-changing and incredibly talented and soulful musician, singer, and songwriter. He was a pioneer of reggae music and a major cultural figure who put Jamaican music on the map. He was born on February 5, 1945 in Nine Mile, British Jamaica, the son of Norval Sinclair Marley, a 60 year old white British naval captain and Cedella Booker, a 19 year old Jamaican woman. He began his music career in 1963 when he formed his band, Bob Marley and the Wailers. From that point until his untimely death from skin cancer in 1981, he created a powerful and timeless legacy. Marley was a prominent member of the Rastafari movement, whose culture was intertwined with reggae. He considered cannabis to be a healing herb, a "sacrament", and an "aid to medication"; he supported marijuana legalization. Marley’s greatest hits album, Legend, is the best-selling reggae album of all time and Bob Marley ranks as one of the best selling music artists of all time.
