Queen Nefertiti bust is an extremely popular home
décor choice for people utilizing an Egytpian
theme. Unfortunately, Queen Nefertiti's identity
remains somewhat of a mystery. It is believed
that Nefertiti was the wife of the Pharoah Akhenaton,
one of the greatest rulers in the history of Egypt.
He was the first to promote the worship of a single
God; Aten, the sun god.
Nerfititi had a great love for her husband and
much of the artwork of the two shows them in affectionate
poses. Consequently, it is difficult to determine
why she abruptly left the palace and vanished
from history. Whether she fell out of favor with
her husband, we don’t know, but her role
in the adoption of this new religion that he promoted
is obvious by the number of artistic works that
adorn temple walls.
Nefertiti was known throughout the ancient world
for her outstanding beauty and her name loosely
translates to “The beautiful woman has come.”
The famous bust of Nefertiti, dating from the
14th century BC now resides in the Staatliche
Museum in Berlin. It was found practically intact
on December 6, 1912 in the workshop of Thutmose,
an Ancient Egyptian sculptor from Akhnaton's capital
city.
Crafted from painted limestone, it is a masterpiece
of the new, naturalistic style in Egyptian art
of the Amarna period and is regarded as one of
the greatest works of art of the pre-modern world.
