| The Age of Bronze
by Auguste Rodin (1840-1947)
Authorized reproduction form
The Rodin Museum, Philadelphia, Pa.
Cast in RESIN with a Bronze Finish
In 1875, using as his model a Belgian soldier named August Neyt, Rodin began work on what 18 months later would become his greatest masterpiece. Originally known as The Conquered Man, this would soon change to The Age of Bronze, which was to describe "one who is passing from the unconsciousness of primitive man into the age of understanding and love".
Wit this piece, Rodin was able to study the contours of his model with all the diligence he was never allowed in his commercial ventures. There is a greater seriousness and emotional depth in The Age of Bronze than in any of his earlier works.
Although this was not the first life size sculpture by Rodin, it was the first that survived. This replica was carefully copied from the original.
Caring for Artwork
We have combined a high-density stone with a catalyst to create this statue. The result is a durable statue that stands up to the ravages of time. Centuries-old casting techniques still apply. Artisans apply the patina-a labor-intensive process that requires several layers and specialized shading - all by hand. Base is 5" wide x 5.5" deep.
