On Alabaster Base which measures 3.5" diameter and 2" high. This Abraham Lincoln bust captures the demeanor of our president that was responsible for bring an end to slavery. President Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States of America. Abraham Lincoln won the Republican nomination for President in 1860. President Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation freeing all slaves and wrote the Gettysburg Address declaring the people are the government. Abraham Lincoln Born Feb. 12, 1809, in Hardin County, Kentucky, Abraham Lincoln's parents were both born in Virginia, of common families. Abraham Lincoln was a self-taught person, had remarkable common sense, and captivated his audiences when he spoke. Lincoln spent every free moment to attain knowledge while working on a farm, and keeping store at New Salem, Illinois. Abraham was a captain in the Black Hawk War, spent eight years in the Illinois legislature, and worked the circuit of courts for many years. Lincoln's law partner said of him, "His ambition was a little engine that knew no rest." Abraham Lincoln married Mary Todd, and they had four boys, only one lived to maturity. After he was elected, President Abraham Lincoln built the Republican Party into a strong national organization; rallied most of the northern Democrats to the Union cause; issued the Emancipation Proclamation that declared freedom for the slaves; tried to negotiate a peaceful settlement with the Confederation regarding slavery and secession from the Union; wrote and delivered the Gettysburg address and when Confederate batteries fired on Fort Sumter President Abraham Lincoln called on the states for 75,000 volunteers and the Civil War began. President Lincoln won re-election in 1864. He was flexible and generous in dealing with the south, asking them to just lay down their arms and rejoin the union. On Good Friday, April 14, 1865, Lincoln was assassinated at Ford's Theatre in Washington by John Wilkes Booth. I
