The sculpture was created from the likeness of a young girl named Lorraine Ganz. This graceful work of art and the lovely town wherein she has stood these many years achieved considerable recognition when, in 1994, a photo of The Bird Girl appeared on the cover of the best selling novel, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt.
