It is hard to believe that the first Pieta and the Florentine Pieta was sculpted by the same sculptor, Michelangelo. Michelangelo sculpted the second Florentine Pieta fifty years after the Roman Pieta. It is thought that al Florentine Pieta was intended for his tomb, it took Michelangelo ten years, he started the Florentine Pieta at the age of seventy-three. One of the things that has always intrigued us about Michelangelo's breath takingly beautiful Pieta is that his vision began with a rough block of marble hauled out of the quarries at Carrara Italy. Our smaller replicas are made from the same marble and expressively capture the virtuous spirit of the Renaissance masterwork. Cast in bonded Carrara marble, our imported Italian replicas are almost identical in appearance and in texture to the original statue, every detail is hand finished by the artisans of the Santini workshop in Italy. Mounted on a solid marble base.
