A Victorious Athlete (1st century B.C.). The Louvre, Paris. In the tradition of The Olympic Games, held at Olympia from 776 B.C. to 394 A.D. statues were frequently made in honor of victorious athletes. This statue is of that type. The head bears the general characteristics of similar statues of the fourth or fifth century B.C. but certain details, particularly of the hair, would make it appear that the statue was made during the first century B.C., perhaps in imitation of an earlier work which no longer exists. The bronze original was found on The Peloponnesus. Hand made in the USA. Made to order take 4-6 weeks.
