Amorgos Head Cycladic Style Of Artistry
Amorgos Head Cycladic Style Of Artistry
Amorgos Head Cycladic Style Of Artistry

Amorgos sculptural bust head - This sculpture copies the Cycladic style of artistry. The disc-like face with a stylized nose as the only discernible feature placed atop a slender elongated neck was typical of the archaic Greece Cycladic figures. The German archeologist, Paul Wolter, described a Cycladic head which he found in 1891 as incredibly ugly. Most patrons of the arts would have agreed with him at the time. We have since come to look upon these objects in a different way. We now find elemental beauty in these polished creations. Cast in Bonded Stone on a marble base standing 14 high. Shown in Old Stone. The Art of the Cyclades-Contemporary décor created 4500 years ago.A legend tells us that after creating Greece, God was left with a handful of rocks which he threw into the Aegean Sea. He called those rocks the Cycladic Islands. More than four thousand years ago the inhabitants of those island fashioned marble statues with breathtaking simplicity of design. They delight our modern eye and have any uncanny resemblance to contemporary design. It has been pointed out that it takes great sureness on the part of an artist to simplify, to eliminate and yet to retain the essential, the basic form. Henry Moore, admired for his mastery of form for the sake of form, said I love and admire cycladic sculpture. I have such great elemental simplicity. Exclusive to Statue.com made by our artisan here in the USA and was from the Eleganza collection of statuary.
