Statue of Liberty with torch raised high, the lady has stood since 1884 on Liberty Island in New York harbor as a welcoming beacon and reminder of the liberty for which the United States was conceived. The 152 foot high statue formed from copper sheets was presented to the United States by the Franco-American Union to commemorate both the French and American Revolutions. A smaller version of the statue is placed in The Luxembourg Gardensin Paris, France.
