About German Dramatist Friedrich Schiller Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller was born on November 10, 1759, in Marbach, Germany and was the son of an army officer. His father worked for Duke Karl Eugen of Würtemberg. Friedrich Schiller dislike of strict regimentation caused the Duke of Würtemberg to forced him to enter the Duke\'s military academy, the Karlsschule, at the age of 13. He studied law and later turned to medicine. When he was 21 he was appointed to a Stuttgart regiment.Schiller felt trapped and overwhelmed with depression and began to compose morbid poetry. After composing his first play, The Robbers 1782, Schiller's writing was discovered by his superiors, and he was forbidden to write. The young German dramatist deserted the army, fleeing to Mannheim where he lived under an assumed name and made his living as a court playwright and stage manager.Friedrich von Schiller established a close friendship with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. It was under Goethe\'s influence that Schiller soon returned his attentions to playwriting and started again to compose his most mature dramas.On May 9, 1805, at the age of 46, Friedrich Schiller died of tuberculosis.
